Local Boy Scout raising money to complete Eagle Scout project

Kevin Goger of Gurnee began his scouting experience as a Tiger Cub and is now pursuing the highest honor of scouting - the Eagle Scout Award. In order to receive this honor, Kevin must complete a community improvement project. He's raising money through RedBasket.org to purchase supplies for his project.

For his Eagle Scout project, Kevin decided to give back to his church, a place that has provided an important source of guidance and development for him. To make the most impact, Kevin is planning to paint 14 classrooms in the building and add new feature walls to each room as well.

"If you've ever repainted a room in your house, a deck, or a patio, then you know what a difference a fresh coat of paint can make," Kevin said. "Painting the classrooms just felt like the most effective way to have an impact on the church community."

Kevin hopes to raise $1,000 through RedBasket.org, a fee-free fundraising website sponsored by WoodmenLife. These funds will go toward the purchase of paint, brushes, rollers, tape, and other materials needed to paint the classrooms.

"Hundreds of kids learn and grow in their faith every year in those classrooms, and I have a unique opportunity to be a part of their faith development," said Kevin.

This fundraiser will be online through Sunday, Sept. 2.
