High school artists design Palatine library banners for Illinois' 200th

In honor of the upcoming 200th anniversary of Illinois, Palatine Library invited Palatine High School and Fremd High School to create and display two original art pieces to celebrate and commemorate Illinois.

Both schools eagerly accepted the challenge. Their completed artwork is displayed in the Palatine Library interior entrance way of both parking garages, creating impressive visual interest as you walk into the library.

Palatine High School's Welcome to the Land of Lincoln banner was colorfully designed by National Art Honor Society students: Harper Appel, Cristal Ramirez, Maggie Walsh, Alyssa Wheat and Natalie Wohlgemuth - supervised by Department Chair Russell Horvath and Nicholas Hostert. It features the Metra train coming from Chicago, with the skyline and Navy Pier Ferris wheel in the background to the farm lands in Illinois.

Fremd High School Art Club, under the direction of Art Department Chair Paul Radek, creatively designed the banner Illinois 200. Each letter of the word "Illinois" features a separate picture depicting the state: A cardinal, the John Hancock building, an ear of corn, and more.

"We are so pleased to be able to exhibit these original commemorative banners for the Palatine community. The students put in extra time and created imagery that speaks of Illinois' history and importance. Thank you to both schools and to everyone that participated," said Andrea Lublink, Palatine library Communications and Marketing manager.
