Historical society hosts Ice Cream Social, Movie Night

Submitted by Joseph R. Skibbie

It's been a summer full of hot days, showing #NoMercy. But let's not forget #Yourethebest around and you deserve a treat before the kids head back to school.

There's time for one more bit of summer fun. #Sweeptheleg up in a comfy chair and sit back to enjoy an Ice Cream Social hosted by the Arlington Heights Historical Society.

On Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 7-9:30 p.m., on the grounds of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 110 W. Fremont St., the Arlington Heights Historical Society will be hosting an Ice Cream Social and Movie Night featuring the original "Karate Kid" movie, starring Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita and Elizabeth Shue.

Summer is coming to an end, but don't let that stop you from coming out to enjoy a fun, free evening of entertainment.

Berry Yo will be on hand providing chocolate and vanilla frozen yogurt. Not just another frozen yogurt place, Sheila, Mick and Jim, the siblings who own the shop, have created a fun, family-friendly environment to share their passion.

Craft Floats featuring Arlington Club Soda and beer donated on behalf of Peggy Kinnane's will also be available.

Enjoy access to the grounds, make your own Miyagi Dojo headband and entertain yourself with historical games. The event is co-sponsored by Allstate Insurance Agency, Jim Thomson and JRS Mar/Com, a digital marketing agency helping businesses #BeSeen and #BeHeard.

The Arlington Heights Historical Society was founded in 1957 by a group of citizens concerned about preserving their local heritage. These charter members met in each other's homes and began to collect local history memorabilia.

The Historical Society is a not-for-profit organization that strives to enrich people's lives by connecting them to the past through inspiring programs, exhibits and stories. The society fulfills its mission through memberships, donations and sponsorships.
