New E-Bike Adventure opens in Naperville

A new bicycling experience is now available at Naperville Park District's DuPage River Sports Complex, which will give cyclists access to Naperville's extensive network of trails.

The E-Bike Adventure opened Memorial Day weekend and is now taking reservations for 90-minute rides on pedal-assist electric bicycles, or Class 1 e-bikes.

Troy Cooper, owner of Naperville Kayak, which rents kayaks at the park district's Paddleboat Quarry on the Riverwalk, is introducing e-bikes this summer as a way for residents and visitors to have more fun and go farther than they could on a regular bicycle.

As explained on the e-bike webpage, "An e-bike … gives you a bit of extra boost so you can cruise faster for longer …. you choose your boost level based on your comfort and experience." The bike's 750-watt motor will turn off once the rider reaches 20 mph.

Riders can book their rentals online at https://www.napervillekayak.com/services/e-bike/, and then go to DuPage River Sports Complex, 2807 S. Washington St., to park their car, check in and begin their e-bike ride.

Rentals include a helmet, e-bike, basic instruction and recommended routes. Destinations accessible from the regional trail that winds through DuPage River Park include Whalon Lake, Knoch Knolls Nature Center, Pioneer Park and more.

Hours for check-in at the park are daily from 9:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. through the end of September.
