Willard Elementary hosts its first McTeacher's Night

On Wednesday, April 18, Willard Elementary School held their very first McTeacher's Night at the South Elgin McDonald's, 100 N. McLean Blvd.

The restaurant was taken over by teachers and staff members excited to serve freshly prepared meals to students and their families to raise money for Willard Elementary School in Elgin Area School District U-46.

The students and families were excited to see their teachers and Principal Julie Leston behind the counter and throughout the restaurant.

The teachers worked many different jobs during this event which included helping take orders, helping at the drive-thru window, handing out orders, making ice cream treats, keeping the lobby clean and even selling fresh hot apple pies while dressed in a pie costume.

Angela Stec and Denise Hoske each took a turn wearing the pie costume while Sharon Fessler and Kelli Silvius escorted them around the restaurant with the tray of delicious hot apple pies to sell. They were all very good sales ladies and sold all 240 pies that were donated to the school by McDonald's owner/operator David Bear of the Bear Family Restaurants. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the pies sales go to the school.

The school's fifth- and sixth-grade orchestra and band also performed during the McTeacher's Night making the night even more special for all who attended. The students were great performers and they sounded wonderful.

A special thank you goes to Willard Elementary Principal Julie Leston who organized the event as well as the teachers and staff members that volunteered their time. They all worked hard while having a wonderful time to ensure the families enjoyed a memorable evening. The money raised will help the school support things such as technology and assemblies for the children.
