Triton College's Interactive STEAM EXPO Returns April 21
River Grove, Ill. - Students from throughout the area and their families will once again experience the many ways that the STEAM fields - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics - factor into their everyday lives as Triton College presents the second annual STEAM EXPO.
The event is Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Collins Gymnasium (R Building) on the east side of campus, located at 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove.
This FREE interactive event is open to the community and will feature dozens of hands-on activities and demonstrations that will capture students' imaginations and inspire them to pursue their goals.
The inaugural STEAM Expo in 2017 was a huge success, and this year's even features even more to see and do. New exhibits at this year's STEAM EXPO include the Chicago Area Robotics Group's 'Robot Search and Rescue' activity, in which operators will guide a robot through a 'burning' building in search of people in need of rescue.
Additionally, sand molds will come to life before your eyes in the 'Augmented Reality Sandbox.' Watch in amazement as creations are augmented in real-time with an elevation color map, topographic contour lines and simulated water.
Attendees can also try their hand at navigating rockets into space thanks to the Cernan Earth and Space Center's flight simulation display - which challenges aspiring astronauts to build rockets, launch missions, stay on budget and avoid disaster.
The STEAM Expo will also serve as a celebration of Earth Day, featuring a display designed to educate the public about the benefits of energy saving 'smart grid' technology, monarch butterfly conservation display and activity as well as other tips for living a greener lifestyle.
Our new east campus greenhouse will be open for tours during the event. Come see the high-tech facility featuring an aquaponic system that will allow fish and plants to grow in one integrated ecosystem.
STEAM Expo activities are age-appropriate for middle school students, though children and adults of all ages are invited to attend.
