As champions of the Middle School Academic competition from the Argonne Region, a five-person team from Daniel Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire recently competed at the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science manages the national finals for high school and middle school teams. This is the fifth consecutive year, and the seventh time in eighth years, that a team from Daniel Wright was part of the national competition for middle schools.

The following students represented Daniel Wright Junior High School at the National Science Bowl: sixth-grader Akshansh Chauhan; seventh-graders Srihas Rao, Deepak Salian and Rishabh Wuppalapati; and eighth-grader Anmol Dash. Anthony Hafner and Sarah Kantor served as the coaches for the Daniel Wright Science Bowl Team.

At the national competition, the team from Daniel Wright won the round robin for the Argonne Division and advanced to the double-elimination round. Although the team won the first match, they lost the next two. Still, the team ended the journey as one of the top 12 middle school teams in the nation.
