Empty Bowls event on Dec 2 for local food pantries

Someone's bowl is always empty. That is the phrase on the logo for 'Empty Bowls at Oakton on December 2 this year. Participants choose to acquire their favorite bowl from hundreds of hand crafted soup bowls contributed by local potters, enjoy a simple meal of soup & bread as a reminder of those in need, and listen to mellow live music, all for a donation of $15 per bowl.

The event includes a raffle drawing for larger art work as well as the opportunity to purchase other art at wonderful prices. All proceeds benefit six local food pantries within Oakton Community College's (OCCs) boundaries.

Sponsored by the Oakton Ceramics Club and supported by student fees at OCC, Empty Bowls is a non-profit, global movement that has raised millions of dollars for poverty programs. The Oakton program earned almost $30,000 for local food charities last year, and has contributed well over $200,000 in it's 14 years of existence.

This is a great chance to get inexpensive & unique gifts while giving to community food charities prior to the holiday season.

Entertainment will be provided again by Patchouli, an acoustic duo whose songs about harmony & healing inspire the human spirit.

Empty Bowls will be held at the Des Plaines campus of OCC, 1600 E Golf Rd, from 10:30am to 2pm on December 2.
