Tutors are needed for adult learners

When adults learn to read, write, use basic math and technology, they have the power to lift themselves out of poverty, lower health care costs, find and keep sustainable employment. Become an adult literacy volunteer tutor and help change someone's life.

The Literacy Connection provides 12 hours of training to equip you to teach, coach and support an adult on their journey to literacy. The first hour of training is a free orientation.

If you like what you learn, a small fee of $35 will be collected to cover the cost of materials (which includes a practical guidebook of strategies for adult learners, participation guide and tote bag), training and background check.

Dozens of adults are on a waiting list to receive the tutoring support they need to read, write, and speak English. Is one of them waiting for you?

A workshop will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, at The Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St. The first hour of this session is an orientation; learn more with no obligation.
