As the Daily Herald's Lisle columnist since 1996, Joan Broz brings to her position a master's degree in journalism and a liberal arts bachelor's degree in home economics and secondary education. In her Lisle column, Broz holds a mirror to the community's past and present. Her popular human interest columns reflect the people, events and activities in Lisle as she emphasizes its good news.
In the newspaper's Neighbor section, Broz utilized her positive people and research skills to write the 2-Minute Drill, the Five Minutes With and the Ask & Learn columns based on interviews with experts, entertainers and newsmakers. In the past, she also wrote restaurant reviews in the Daily Herald's Going Out Guide.
As a Lisle resident for 30 years, Broz volunteered in both school and scouting programs. She has a copyright and art-based website on the Picture Parent Program she established in local schools. For nine years, she filmed and directed live Lisle village board meetings on the government access cable station as a volunteer. She now serves on the Lisle Community Character Alliance. Broz is a lifelong learner, active volunteer and creative soul who loves meeting people of all ages and sharing their good news.
