Softball: Barrington's Peterson wins 900th game

Just nine days after Elk Grove coach Ken Grams reached 1,000 wins, chalk up another milestone for a Mid-Suburban League hall of fame softball coach.

Perry Peterson, now in his 29th season at Barrington after one at St. Viator, won his 900th game on Monday with 20-10 victory at Palatine.

Grams and Peterson are the sport's two winningest active coaches, and only retired St. Joseph-Ogden coach Randy Wolken has more wins with 1,O44.

"Perry is second to none when it comes to preparation," said 27-year assistant Barrington coach Jon Sander, who combined with his father Dennis (former assistant) and mother Sarah (former scorekeeper) to allow the Sander family to be a part of all 29 years of Peterson's tenure at Barrington.

"He sees to it that on and off the field every coach and player knows their role and is prepared for any situation we may encounter. So many of the lessons he teaches the girls can be applied to both on the field and in life."

Junior Allie Goodwin smacked four of Barrington's five homers for a school record.

The five homers gave the Fillies (25-4, 15-1) a total of 64 homers this spring, breaking the school record of 62 set last year.
