Special teams coordinator Tabor leaves Bears for Panthers

On a day when the Bears gained a head coach, they also lost a special teams coordinator.

Chris Tabor, who filled that role under Matt Nagy beginning in 2018, has been hired by the Carolina Panthers, NFL.com reported Thursday night. The Bears hired new head coach Matt Eberflus earlier in the day.

That ends Tabor's second stint with the Bears - he was a special teams assistant alongside Dave Toub on head coach Lovie Smith's staff from 2008 to 2010.

Tabor was in the spotlight this past Halloween when he served as interim head coach while Nagy was out with COVID-19. The Bears lost that home game 33-22 to Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers.
