After all these years, Kerr admits he's still a Bulls fan
Golden State coach Steve Kerr made it sound like he's still a Bulls fan, 24 years after his run in Chicago ended.
"It's fun to see them competing at this level, it's fun to see the crowd into it," Kerr said before Friday's game. "It always makes me happy when the Bulls do well, other than when we play them. I've got a lot of strong feelings for the city and the organization. So it's been fun to see their success."
Kerr played for the Bulls from 1993-98, winning three championships. Still a fan favorite in Chicago, he hit the clinching shot in the last game of the 1997 Finals.
"A lot of good memories," Kerr said. "Just walking through that hallway, I think about the great years that I enjoyed here, I think about the championship celebrations here on our home floor. I think about all those times and teammates and Phil (Jackson), pretty special time of my life and for all of us on that team."
Kerr also offered as pleasant tribute to Bulls newcomer DeMar DeRozan.
"The one thing that's always stood out about DeMar is he gets any shot he wants," Kerr said. "So down the stretch of a game, you get him the ball and you clear out. He's so strong and his footwork is so good and he shoots the ball kind of behind his head and you can't really get up and challenge that shot and he's creative with pump fakes.
"The Spurs won a lot of games with him just taking over down the stretch and that's a real luxury to have a player like that. Watching them on tape, anytime they need a bucket in the middle of the game, they just throw it to him on iso and he gets a great look, so he's one of the very best bucket-getters in the game."
