Cubs acquire Ramirez in trade with Guardians

In a move that adds outfield depth, the Cubs on Monday acquired outfielder Harold Ramirez from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations.

In 99 games for Cleveland last season, the 27-year-old Ramirez hit .268/.305/.398 with 21 doubles, 7 home runs and 41 RBI in 99 games.

A right-hander, Ramirez batted .297 with runners in scoring position and hit .288 vs. left-handed pitching.

Ramirez played 49 games in left field for the Guardians, 34 in right and 20 in center. The 5-foot-10, 230-pounder also played a game at first base.

Cleveland designated Ramirez for assignment last Friday.

Originally signed by the Pirates out of his native Colombia, Ramirez hit .320 in 2018 for Class AA New Hampshire in the Blue Jays' system and was the Eastern League batting champion.

Ramirez made his major-league debut in 2019 and slashed .276/.312/.416 with 11 homers and 50 RBI in 119 games with the Marlins. His 116 hits ranked sixth among National League rookies.

In 2020, Ramirez played in 3 games for Miami and was 2-for-10.

Acquiring Ramirez increases the Cubs' 40-man roster to 38.
