State golf: Barrington, Stevenson girls battle it out; Prospect boys in 3rd

As expected, the girls golf teams from Barrington and Stevenson are battling it out for the Class 2A state championship at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur.

And after Friday's opening round, the Fillies have the inside track to their first state title in program history, while defending champ Stevenson lurks 6 shots back.

Led by a 1-under par 71 from senior Mara Janess, who won the individual title in 2019, Barrington shot a 296 on Friday, while Stevenson came in at 302 and Loyola at 306.

Sophomore Leah Gaidos (74), senior Sophia Sulkar (74) and junior Simran Singh (77) also had counting scores for Barrington.

Freshman Allyson Duan shot even-par 72 to pace Stevenson, which came back to beat Barrington by 1 shot for the 2019 state title. Also scoring Friday for the Patriots were junior Allie Santos (75), sophomore Chelsea She (77) and sophomore Megan Lee (78).

Individuals advancing to Saturday's final round included Lexi Schulman of Vernon Hills (78), Sarah Sim of Fremd (80), Sadie Zorilla of Conant (82) and Kate Reising of Prospect (85).

Class 3A boys:

At The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington, Prospect stands in third place, 11 shots behind co-leaders New Trier and Glenbrook North.

The Knights shot a 293, led by a 1-under 71 from senior Daniel Raupp. Sophomore Luke Kruger came in at 72, while sophomore Patrick Raupp and junior Michael Madayag each had 75s.

Barrington shot a 299 and is tied for fifth place with Hinsdale Central. Senior Dylan Dunne led the Broncos with a 72. Senior Owen Naughton (74), freshman Drew Schauenberg (75) and sophomore Walker Grelle (78) also scored.

Individual advancers included Conant's Nicolas Simon, whose 2-under 70 is tied for fourth, Maine South's Jacob Doliwa (73), Hersey's Chad Tramba (74), Buffalo Grove's Dori Lee (75), Palatine's Pablo Castro (76) and Lake Zurich's Jake Michalak (77).

Class 1A girls:

St. Viator stands in fourth place 5 shots behind third place Latin at Red Tail Run in Decatur.

Freshman Maggie Carlson paced the Lions' 338 with a 75, which is tied for eighth place. Also scoring for St. Viator were Ava Reisinger (85), Lilly Zicarelli (87) and Claire Van Bergen (91).

Class 2A boys:

At Weibring Golf Club in Normal, St. Viator's Charlie Bullock shot a 75 to advance. Also moving into Saturday's final round are Creighton Campbell of Grayslake North (76), Dominic Lucchesi of Grayslake Central (76), Dylan Josephson of Vernon Hills (77) and David Koziol of St. Viator (79).
