Boys soccer: Grayslake Central blitzes rival Grayslake North

The battle didn't last that long between Grayslake Central and Grayslake North on the soccer field Tuesday night.

The one-two combination of Daniel Marynevych and Mitchell Fein led to 3 goals in a 13-minute span starting the match, allowing Grayslake Central to run past Grayslake Central 4-0 in a Northern Lake County Conference matchup in Grayslake.

"They finally played the way we wanted them to play for the last four weeks," Grayslake Central coach Keith Andersson said of his team. "They did exactly what we're looking for, side to side, move the ball up quick pace. They just did everything right."

The Rams (4-4, 2-0) haven't been shy against the big teams or anyone on their schedule.

"When we started out, we played the big teams - New Trier, Libertyville and Loyola Academy," Andersson said. "Warren (Thursday) will be a huge competition for us. The boys are starting to figure out what they need to do."

Maryevych scored a hat trick in the first portion of the game that included one in the first 42 seconds. He now has 10 goals and 2 assists on the season.

"This was a personal best for me," Maryevych said. "I think our chemistry develops more and more each season even though we lose players that are seniors. We just rebuild the chemistry and get this new unification and new energy each season."

Fein had 4 assists with the other goal going to Alan Alonso. Fein's a believer in the assists more than goals.

"I feel it's more about the setup," Fein said. "I love making beautiful passes to other players and it feels a whole lot better for me."

Grayslake North (0-6-1, 0-2) has been trying to find its footing early on this season and seems to be still working and battling through some aches and pains.

"I expected fight and discipline working together," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "We're struggling and been fighting a lot of injuries and some health scares that we haven't had a full roster for a game yet. We constantly have to move pieces around try to sort things out. We do play a tough schedule that we hope prepares us."
