Carter, four others to be inducted into Elgin Sports Hall of Fame

Larkin High School will be represented by three of its former athletes when the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame inducts its Class of 2021 on Nov. 7 at the Edward Schock Centre in Elgin.

Deryn Carter, a 1998 Larkin grad who is currently the Royals' head boys basketball coach, is being inducted for his basketball playing accomplishments, while 1999 alum Jason Richardson (baseball, tennis), and 2000 grad Eyad Salem (football) are also being inducted.

Scott Johnson, a 1974 Elgin High grad who is a retired assistant executive secretary of the Illinois High School Association, will be inducted as a friend of sports; Dan Sheldon, a 2001 Burlington Central product is being inducted for football; and, 1901 Elgin alum Mike McNerny will be inducted for football, baseball and as a friend of sports.

Patrick Sharpe will receive the Vic Masi Outstanding Service Award.

Because the 2000 induction banquet was canceled due to COVID-19, the ESHOF will also induct the following on Nov. 7 from that class: Jon Charnesky, Marcus Howard, John Lohbauer, Marcus Smallwood and Rick Young. Mark Sharf will receive the Vic Masi Award for 2020.
