Boomers win 50th game of the season

The Schaumburg Boomers recorded their 50th win of the seasopn with a 5-1 decision over the Lake Erie Crushers to sweep the mid-week series and win a fifth straight game for the first time this season.

The Boomers wasted no time in jumping ahead. Postseason All-Star Chase Dawson recorded a two-out single in the top of the first and stole second before scoring on a double from Braxton Davidson. The lead extended to 4-0 with three two-out runs in the fourth. Frontier League MVP Quincy Nieporte walked with one away and moved to third on a double from Angelo Gumbs. Both scored on a Matt Bottcher single. Matt McGarry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to knock in the fourth run. Lake Erie scored in the bottom of the inning to pull within 4-1. The final run scored in the seventh when Davidson connected on his 20th homer of the year.

Davidson and Gumbs tallied two hits apiece. Andrew Dean worked six innings and allowed just one run while walking three and striking out five to earn the win. Kristian Scott, Jake Joyce and Jack Snyder all worked an inning in relief.

The Boomers (50-43) open the final series of the regular season on Friday night against the Florence Y'Alls. RHP Geoff Bramblett (3-0, 1.71) will make the start against RHP Edgar Martinez (6-3, 4.86).
