Before Monday's game, the Cubs activated David Bote from the injured list and designated Andrew Romine for assignment.

Bote injured his right ankle during batting practice before the Aug. 27 game against the White Sox when he accidentally stepped on a ball while running.

Bote, who has hit .202 with 8 home runs this season, did not play in Monday's game.

Romine, 35, leaves the Cubs with some strong memories. He not only was in the same lineup as younger brother Austin, he also pitched an inning with Austin catching. Romine hit a clutch 3-run homer off Craig Kimbrel to tie the score against the White Sox at Wrigley, a game the Cubs eventually lost in extra innings.

Wicks makes pro debut:

Cubs first-round draft pick Jordan Wicks made his professional debut Sunday with the South Bend Cubs. The left-hander from Kansas State pitched just 1 inning and retired the side in order, with help from a diving catch by left fielder Yohendrick Pinango.
