Cubs manager Ross says Contreras could DH this week

Willson Contreras, on the injured list with a knee sprain, took batting practice before Monday's game. Manager David Ross said there's a chance he could play as soon as this weekend against the White Sox.

"I think the ideal scenario is let's see how he can hit, get around the bases, run hard and play free like that," Ross said. "Maybe we can bring him back a little bit earlier at some point. Maybe hold off on catching to give him some extra days."

Ross meant Contreras could DH in American League parks. The Cubs have five AL games coming up against the White Sox and Twins.

Cubs notes:

The Cubs moved a couple prospects from the Arizona rookie team to low A Myrtle Beach. Making the jump are outfielder Christian Franklin, the team's fourth-round draft pick this year; and outfielder Owen Caissie, one of the players who came back in the Yu Darvish trade.

Caissie hit .345 with 6 home runs and a .474 on-base percentage. Franklin went 5-for-11 at the plate in four games. ...

Former Cubs Aramis Ramirez and Geovany Soto threw out first pitches before Monday's game.
