Maine West grad Ladendorf joins Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs added two veteran infielders this week - Maine West grad Tyler Ladendorf and longtime second baseman Dee Strange-Gordon. Both were in the lineup for Iowa on Saturday, while pitcher Trevor Megill was scheduled to make a rehab appearance.

Ladendorf, 33, last played in the majors in 2016 for Oakland. He spent the past two years playing in independent leagues, including 2020 with the Rosemont-based Chicago Dogs, where he hit 13 home runs in 55 games.

Ladendorf was originally drafted out of high school by the Yankees in 2006. He decided to go to college instead and was drafted twice more out of Howard College in Texas, the second time by Minnesota in the second round. He played for the Kane County Cougars in 2009.

Pitcher Alec Mills made his second rehab start for the Iowa Cubs on Friday against St. Paul. He went 4 innings, allowing 2 runs, 5 hits, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.
