Wieck back with Cubs after helping with Iowa no-hitter
The Cubs brought back left-handed reliever Brad Wieck on Tuesday, after he was part of history with the Iowa Cubs.
On Sunday, four Iowa Cubs pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter against Indianapolis. Shelby Miller threw the first 3 innings, followed by Tommy Nance with 3, Wieck with 2, then Ryan Meisinger in the ninth. Miller, Nance and Wieck had 5 strikeouts each.
"Sounded like everybody threw really well," Cubs manager David Ross said. "That's always a good sign. No hits and (15) strikeouts, that's a good formula."
Miller had three appearance with the Cubs early this season and didn't fare well. Ross said Miller is in Iowa for a rehab assignment.
"Some hamstring, low back stuff that he had pop up," Ross said. "He's in that process of rehabbing and getting his arm back in shape. He had to take some time off and get back on the mound and performing to get back up here."
Wieck's call-up was the corresponding move to outfielder Jake Marisnick going on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring issue.
