Cubs' Williams delivers jersey, then victory

Trevor Williams' father Richard was back in social media news Saturday.

Before Trevor's start against Atlanta, Richard tweeted that he'd be wearing one of his son's game-worn Cubs jerseys to Wrigley Field for the game.

Asked about it after the game, Williams admitted it wasn't a jersey that he pitched in.

"It's one of my two jerseys that I have. I promised him a jersey that I didn't get, because I forgot," he said with a laugh. "So I knew I needed to grab one of those.

"Is it game-worn? Sure, I might have worn it in the dugout. I wore it during a game. He was thrilled. I don't think he's had a Cubs jersey for a long time, so he was thrilled about that."

Williams got into some trouble early in Saturday's game, but helped himself out by picking off Ronald Acuna Jr. at first base in the top of the first. Then he just sat back and enjoyed the run support to improve to 2-1 on the season.

"It's always nice to pitch with some cushion," he said.

Trevor Williams was born and raised in San Diego. But his father Richard grew up on the South Side and was a die-hard Cubs fan growing up.
