Cubs reliever Chafin looks the part, gets job done

The Cubs bullpen is not only off to a decent start this season, it also has a meme-worthy hurler in lefthander Andrew Chafin.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, Chafin was already a big, burly guy. But now that he's grown out his mustache, he looks like a cross between 70s-era Goose Gossage and an Old West desperado.

"That look in his eye when he takes the ball from me on the mound, the way he comes off the mound staring at me like he wants to fight me makes me smile," manager David Ross said. "He's one of the guys that doesn't shy away from the big moment. There's kind of, for lack of a better term, a bulldog mentality when he's out there, not shying away or scared of anything.

The Ohio native joined the Cubs in a trade from Arizona last season and has piled up 8 strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings so far this season.

"It's somebody I have a lot of trust in," Ross added. "Understands what he does well, but he keeps it really simple. It was nice to get him last year an we really liked his stuff and the way he went about competing. He's a huge piece of our bullpen and has got a lot of trust from me."
