Girls golf: Stevenson, St. Charles North claim regional crowns

Stevenson's girls golf team got consistent play from three underclassmen Wednesday and rolled to the championship of the Class 2A Lake Forest regional at Deerpath Golf Course.

The defending state champion Patriots shot a 312 to easily outdistance second place Lake Forest, which had a 334. Both teams advance to next Monday's Dundee-Crown sectional at Randall Oaks.

Vernon Hills sophomore Lexi Schulman was Wednesday's medalist with a 74, one shot better than freshman Chelsea She and sophomore Allie Santos of Stevenson.

Stevenson's other counting scores came from freshman Megan Lee (79) and junior Emily Duan (83). Senior Briana Fidman also had an 83.

Junior Catie Nekola shot a 78 to pace St. Charles North's 334, which won the South Elgin regional. St. Francis also advanced with a 353, beating out St. Charles East on a fifth score tiebreaker. Isabella Spinazzze had an 83 for SCN, while Aleksa Gizewicz shot 85 and Sophia Evers 88. St. Francis senior Katherine Lemke was medalist with a 77. Also scoring for the Spartans were Emerson Hollarbush (89), Sarah Grivetti (92) and Cameron Marr (95). Also advancing to the Rolling Meadows sectional next Tuesday were West Chicago's Kendall Farm (79), Geneva's Reese Clark (80), Wheaton North's Bridget Craig (82) and St. Charles East's Allison Edgar (83). ... At Glenbard East, Hinsdale Central (306) and Naperville North (334) advanced to next Tuesday's Sandburg sectional. HC sophomore Sarah Thornton was medalist with a 73. Lucy Rayburn led Naperville North with a 79 and Emma Kirvan shot an 83. Advancing individuals included Benet's Olivia Ruffalo (76) and Grace George (85). ... Neuqua Valley shot a 330 to win the Oswego East regional, with Waubonsie Valley coming in at 374. Both advance to the Sandburg sectional. Neuqua was led by medalist Sarah Zheng (73) and freshman Rebecca Wu (82). Freshman Kelly Cong and sophomore Lilly Riley paced Waubonsie with 91s. Metea Valley's Abby Terada (92) and West Aurora's Emma Lawless (92) moved on as individuals. ... With a medalist round of 80, Liv Romer led Wauconda to its own regional crown with a 370. The Bulldogs will play in the Dundee-Crown sectional next week. Caitlin Hriljac and Cheyenne Jacobs each had 94s for Wauconda Wednesday. Mundelein also advanced with a 380. Kellie Shanahan (90), Natalie Altenhoff (94) and Maddy Forster (94) led the Mustangs. Allison Kennedy of Lakes also advanced with an 89. ... At the Sandburg regional, Downers Grove South shot a 356 to finish second and advance to the Sandburg sectional next Tuesday. Sandburg won the regional with a 306. Senior Elena Kuczkowski led DGS with a 78, while junior Jackie Kuczkowski had an 82. Sandburg's Athena Kwon was medalist with a 67. ... At New Trier, Glenbrook South sisters Maria and Effie Perakis shot 77 and 78 respectively to advance to next Tuesday's Rolling Meadows sectional. Also advancing as individuals were Maine South's Maggie Woods and Kendall Bertsch and Glenbrook North's Claire Choi, all with 87s. New Trier (315) and Loyola (331) were the advancing teams and New Trier's Audrey Tir shot a 76 to earn medalist honors. ... At Sterling, Kaneland's Katharine Marshall shot a 94 to advance to the Dundee-Crown sectional.

Rosary won the Sandwich regional with a 386 and will play in next Monday's Seneca sectional. Brooke Stumm led the Royals with a 92. Advancing as individuals were Lisle's Haley Cassells (91) and Aurora Central Catholic's Michelle Beggs (92). ... St. Edward sophomore Ivy Burnett shot a 90 at the Johnsburg regional to advance to Seneca next week.
