Cubs' Bryant not quite ready to return from injured list

Kris Bryant was back at Wrigley Field on Saturday, after taking a trip to the Cubs' satellite camp in South Bend.

But there's still no word on when Bryant might be ready to come off the injured list with a sore left wrist. Bryant's last game action was Aug. 17 in a doubleheader against St. Louis.

"He's day-to-day, really," Cubs manager David Ross said before Saturday's doubleheader in Cincinnati. "Today he has a lighter day at Wrigley where he'll take some swings. Every day we're kind of adjusting or listening to him and seeing how things are going.

"He's on the right path, going to continue to try to get him at bats as much as we can up until we all feel he's ready to come off."

The Cubs are anxious to see if Bryant can shake off his summer slump that saw him hit .177 with 2 home runs before the injury. Ross said Steven Souza Jr., who went on the injured list a few days before Bryant, is going through the same workout routine. Both players did batted against live pitching in South Bend on Friday.
