Clubhouse Chatter: Suggest a new name for NFL's Washington team

What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.

I read that RedWolves was being considered in some quarters, and possibly gaining some momentum. Not bad. If the team would like to retain Red in its name, I prefer the RedHogs.

- Mike Smith

Washington Politicos.

- Patricia Babcock McGraw

Let's go with the Washington Wolves.

- John Leusch

Cats or Dogs. Should be approved by all and easy to spell. If they were the Hippopotamuses or the Tube-Lipped Nectar Bats, my concern is how I would handle that on deadline.

- Barry Rozner

The Washington Bandits. A perfect nickname for what goes on daily in that city on both sides of the aisle.

- John Dietz

I'll go with the Hogs, no offense to sus scrofa domesticus (the domestic pig). It's out of respect to Washington's offensive line in the late 1980s, early '90s, the burly crew that blew open holes for John Riggins and paved the way to three Super Bowl wins.

- Scot Gregor

I saw a suggestion of RedTails to honor the Tuskegee Airmen. That seems like a great nickname.

- Kevin Schmit

The D.C. Grift.

- Dave Oberhelman

It's time for Washington to repurpose the nickname "Diplomats" from the defunct North American Soccer League club that, like the Washington NFL team, played in RFK Stadium. Second choice: The Washington Wooden Teeth.

- Orrin Schwarz

"The Replacements" is one of my favorite movies, so I'll go with the Washington Sentinels.

- John Radtke
