Clubhouse Chatter: If you could be any pro athlete, who would you pick?
What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.
Rory McIlroy. I can't think of a better way to enjoy life and pocket a big paycheck than being on the PGA Tour. Alas, though, after I hit my drive 350 yards, I have no game.
- John Radtke
Connor McDavid. He's 23, incredibly fast and maybe the most talented player in hockey. Mostly, I'd like to be 23 again.
- Barry Rozner
Otto Porter. It's hard to beat that paycheck.
- Mike McGraw
As a kid growing up in the Chicago area, playing shortstop for the Cubs was always the dream. Today that position belongs to one of the most dynamic players in baseball, Javier Baez. Who wouldn't want to play the game with the passion, energy, flair and skill that he does?
- Orrin Schwarz
Rickie Fowler. Tempting to pick Tiger Woods but don't think I'd like living in the fishbowl he does, so I'll go with a professional golfer who can go see a movie or go out for pizza. And I'd still be able to reach 590-yard par 5s in two, drain putts from all over the green, and wear those loud orange pants that I happen to be a fan of.
- John Lemon
I'll be honest ... I've never wanted to be a professional athlete. Even when I was a kid I wasn't interested. If I had to pick one, though, I'd probably be a professional baseball player.
- Kevin Schmit
If I had the brains I'd go with Moe Berg, a major-league catcher in the 1920s and '30s who also was an American spy during World War II.
