Clubhouse Chatter: Which rule in sports needs to be changed?
What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.
Maybe I'm just tired of watching Kyle Schwarber play left field, but I think it's time for the National League to adopt the designated hitter. You wouldn't have different overtime rules in the AFC and NFC, so why does baseball still have two sets of rules? The two leagues came together before when the AL umpires stopped wearing red jackets. They can do it again.

Get rid of the instigator rule in hockey. It has made the game more dangerous as the clowns who cheap-shot the best players have freedom with no fear of reprisal.

I don't care for shot clocks in basketball. I'd remove it from the college game. If a team can hold the ball for five minutes while being fiercely defended, it deserves to be able to do so.

The automated strike zone can't arrive soon enough. Major League Baseball has experimented with it in the independent South Atlantic League and the Arizona Fall League. The plan is to use it in some minor league games this season. The system is not perfected yet. Fast-track it anyway. Even flawed, the technology can't be more frustrating that watching a game umpired by Joe West.

Won-lost record for a pitcher. Make it the official scorer's decision. No more situations were a starting pitcher throws 8 scoreless, the closer surrenders 2 in the ninth, only to get the win when his team rallies for 2 in the bottom of the ninth. Archaic rule and plain awful.
