Originally scheduled to be played on June 13 and 14, the Cubs-Cardinals London Series has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Major League Baseball made the announcement Wednesday.

"We made the decision because it was unlikely the events would go forward, and timely cancellation allowed us to preserve important financial resources," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "We also have canceled agreements with service providers and delayed projects that involve large capital expenditures."

There is a chance the Cubs and Cardinals will play in London during the 2021 season.

In 2019, the Yankees and Red Sox played the inaugural London Series.

MLB has already canceled two other scheduled international series. The Diamondbacks and Padres were scheduled to play April 18 and 19 in Mexico City, and the Mets and Marlins were scheduled to play April 28 to 30 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

MLB announced all tickets purchased through London Stadium or Ticketmaster will be refunded automatically in full, including service charges.

The White Sox and Yankees are still waiting to hear if they'll play the "Field of Dreams" game, scheduled for Aug. 13.

A new ballpark is being constructed for the game near the iconic "Field of Dreams" movie site in Dyersville, Iowa.
