Prospect, Maine South win regional crowns

Prospect's wrestling team had six champions and scored 201 points to win its own Class 3A regional championship Saturday.

Winning titles for the Knights and advancing to next weekend's Barrington sectional were Will Baysingar (106 pounds, 40-0), Marcus Santos (113, 29-7), Damian Puma (126, 23-18), Jack Milos (132, 40-0), Joe Miller (138, 32-13) and Caleb Smith (195, 33-9).

Also winning titles were Hersey's Billy Spassov (152, 17-9) and Huskies' heavyweight Austin Korba (31-3).

Other Northwest suburbs' advancers included Rolling Meadows' Elciro Domingo Gonzalez (2nd at 106), Prospect's Lennon Steinkuehler (2nd at 120), Hersey's Luis Vasquez (3rd at 120), Hersey's Vinnie Lazzara (3rd at 126), Hersey's Zach Joyce (2nd at 132), Hersey's Chris Heidrich (3rd at 145), Prospect's Chris DeNardis (3rd at 152), and Prospect's Ryan Traviola (3rd at 170).

As a team, Prospect advances to the Glenbrook North dual-team sectional on Feb. 25.

At Niles West: Maine South won the team title with 222 points to advance to the South Elgin dual-team sectional.

Individuals advancing to next weekend's Conant sectional for the Hawks included Joe Marino (3rd at 113), Nathan Beltran (3rd at 120), Noah Beltran (1st at 126), Aidan Hansen (1st at 132), Trevor Marks (3rd at 138), Ben Taalman (2nd at 152), John Nocita ( (1st at 160), Sebastian Chisari 2nd at 170), Clay Cichowski (1st at 195), Adam Salameh (2nd at 220) and Tedy Hickey (2nd at 285).

Advancers for Maine West included Ian Huff (2nd at 138), Rahil Sadruddin (1st at 170) and Jack Roback (1st at 182), while Maine East will send Chris Kish (3rd at 106), Armand Graham (2nd at 113), Jeffrey Becerra (2nd at 120), Angel Villegas (1st at 145), Baltazar Cabrales (1st at 152) and Kevin Wingate (3rd at 285) on to Conant.

At Lake Park: Schaumburg's Grant Hansen won the 145-pound title and the Saxons' Franco Fontela was the 220-pound champion at the Lake Park regional, which also feeds into the Conant sectional.

Also advancing for the Saxons were Caden Kirchner (2nd at 106) and Asad Khaja (3rd at 182).

Conant's Jack Hominac won the title at 170 while other Cougars moving on included Yordan Neykov (3rd at 106), Anthony Fioravanti (3rd at 113), Russell Hoeft (3rd at 120), Patrick Kane (3rd at 152), Kobe Gilbert (2nd at 160) and Henry Chang (3rd at 195).

At Willowbrook: Leyden's Daniel Uribe won the 138-pound title at the Willowbrook regional and will advance to the Conant sectional. Also moving on for the Eagles are Jimmy Lonigro (3rd at 152), Ronald Massari (2nd at 160) and Ben Uribe (2nd at 170).

Danny Gaskill of Elk Grove finished third at 120 to advance as did the Grens' Tuvshin Zuunbayan (2nd at 126).

At Notre Dame: At the Class 2A regional at Notre Dame, St. Viator had three champions as Gaetano Console (152), Nick Demunno (182) and Ryan Mcguire (220) all advanced to the Deerfield sectional.

Also advancing for the Lions are Braeden Towle (3rd at 113) and Daniel Fitzpatrick (3rd at 132), while Wheeling will send Jatuthep Rattanahattakul (3rd at 120), Diego Hernandez (3rd at 126), Kyle Kong (2nd at 138), David Avalos (3rd at 195) and Luis Gonzalez (3rd at 220) on to the next round.
