Vernon Hills rolls to CSL title again
Vernon Hills' boys bowling team enjoyed "home alley" advantage, capturing the Central Suburban League tournament at Bowlero in Vernon Hills last Saturday.
By virtue of also winning the regular-season conference title, the Cougars were declared the outright CSL champions. They took the lead in the first match and never looked back. Vernon Hills rolled two 1000-plus games and two 1100-plus games (plus two 971 games).
By the end of the tournament, the Cougars' 6223 total pin fall was 374 pins better than second-place Evanston. It was Vernon Hills' fourth conference championship in a row.
"That is quite a legacy for the seniors on the team," Cougars assistant coach Bill Spigner said.
Sophomore Joe Napierkowski won the individual title, as the Cougars claimed three of the top-five spots.
Napierkowski rolled a total series of 1332, averaging 222 with a high game of 256. Senior Jacob Gates (1243 series, 236 high game, 207.1 average) placed third, and junior Noah Kalicki (1223, 232, 203.8) was fifth. Vernon Hills' other contributors included senior Brandon Cervantes (213, 234, 201) and junior Brendan Healey (212, 257, 259). Healey bowled the two highest games of the day for the Cougars with his 257 and 259.
Vernon Hills competes Saturday in the Grayslake North regional at Fair Haven Lanes in Mundelein.
