Boys cross country: St. Viator second at own regional

St. Viator's boys cross country team finished second Saturday at the Class 2A regional hosted by the Lions.

Viator scored 66 points. St. Francis won the team title with 28 points. Also advancing to next week's Fenton sectional were Vernon Hills, Fenton, Notre Dame and Carmel.

St. Viator was led by a second-place finish from senior Patric Natindim (15:57). Also scoring for the Lions were sophomore Mickey Schumacher (6th), senior Matt Goss (18th), senior Ryan Politzki (19th) and junior Nathan Kochera (21st).

St. Francis senior dan Weizorick won the race in a time of 15:53.2.

Class 3A at Niles West: Maine South, led by individual champion Joey Kasch, took second place to New Trier and advanced to next week's Lake Park sectional. Kasch, a senior, finished in a time of 15:12. Maine West, led by a 16th place finish from senior Ray Ure, took the sixth and final team spot in the sectional. Individual qualifiers included Maine East's Erik Osorio-Cruz, and Elk Grove's Michael Johnson.

Class 3A at Lake Forest: Wheeling junior Bryan Martinez finished 23rd to qualify individually for the Hoffman Estates sectional.
