Boys soccer: Favuzzi, Rollins help York shock Addison Trail

York senior midfielders Paolo Favuzzi and Kol Rollins each scored their third goals of the season 82 seconds apart on Monday.

Favuzzi's strike was the go-ahead goal and Rollins' tally turned out to be the game-winner as the visiting Dukes surprised Addison Trail 4-2 in West Suburban Conference crossover match.

Joe Meade and Ryan Woolfe also scored for York, which exacted a measure of revenge on the team that beat them twice last season and knocked the Dukes out of the playoffs.

"To a certain extent we think about (the rivalry), but it's a new season, new team," Rollins said. "I thought we had a great chance to knock them off and show them up from last year."

The Dukes (7-5-1) set the tone early when Meade stole a back pass and scored just 2:51 into the game.

Aaron Sanchez tied it for Addison Trail (9-3-1) with the first of his 2 goals at the 22:52 mark of the first half. It remained that way until the Dukes were awarded a 27-yard free kick on the left wing with 26:04 to go in the second half.

Meade and Favuzzi stood over the ball before Meade ran past it and Favuzzi bent a wicked shot around the defensive wall. Addison Trail goalkeeper Ernesto Padua dove for it, but the ball snuck in between his hand and the far post.

"I walked up to it and the wall was further over," Favuzzi said. "I know the keeper and I just decided to take it.

"It was no other thoughts. I saw a good angle so I decided to take it. Instead of running straight on I came more on an angle, just sliced it more.

"After that you saw as soon as we scored that, the momentum started to pick up."

Indeed, the Dukes struck again on another well-executed shot at the 24:42 mark. This time Rollins settled a high pass from Meade on the right wing, drove on a defender into the box and blasted a 15-yard shot inside the near post and under the crossbar for a 3-1 lead.

"I've been working on stuff like that, either put it in near post or far post, whichever one is open," Rollins said. "I saw (Padua) cheating over a little bit so I had to put it in the near post, top corner.

"It felt great. It's a huge momentum boost."

The Blazers were playing without top defender Martin Murillo, yet they kept it close thanks in part to defender Angel Gomez, who cleared three shots off the goal line.

But Woolfe made it 4-1 with an easy tap-in off a corner kick from Ethan Oder at the 19:07 mark. Sanchez converted a penalty kick with 17:35 left, but the Blazers could get no closer.

"They outplayed us today," Addison Trail coach Ryan Dini said. "It was pretty obvious.

"We're a fast team and we just didn't have the energy today, but give them credit."
