Boys soccer: Cary-Grove shuts out Burlington Central
Cary-Grove (4-3, 1-0) scored a pair of goals in each half and held Burlington Central (2-4, 0-1) scoreless to pick up their first win in Fox Valley Conference play with a 4-0 win Tuesday.
Mateo Núñez had a goal and an assist for Cary-Grove, while the other goals were scored by Anthony Warfield, Drew Szydlo and Jesus Padilla. Sam Kedzior had 2 saves in goal for the Trojans and Tristan Samuelian tallied 16 saves for the Rockets.
Crystal Lake South 2, St. Edward 1: Despite taking an early 1-0 lead, the Green Wave (6-1) suffered their first loss of the season, dropping a nail-biter to the defending 2A state champion Gators at the PepsiCo Challenge Tuesday night. CL South (6-2-2) came charging back in the second half with a tying goal from Deven Tinajero followed by what would be the winning goal from Alex Canfield. St. Edward's goal was scored by Jackson Godfrey off a pass from Josh Johansen.
Addison Trail 3, Dundee-Crown 1: The Chargers (6-2) suffered a tough loss at the PepsiCo challenge, as they faltered a bit on offense and defense. Julian Saldana scored the lone goal for Dundee-Crown, unassisted early in the first half. Nathan Becker tended goal for the Chargers with 7 saves.
Kaneland 7, Morris 0: The Knights (7-4, 4-0) continued a hot streak on both sides of the ball, dominating on offense and shutting out the opponent. Cade Ory and Allen Dominquez each scored 2 goals for Kaneland, and Garret Robinson, Tyler Chapman, and Tucker Jahns each scored a goal.
Harvest Christian 2, Westminster Christian 1: Cal Hoon, assisted by Eli Hoon, scored the only goal of the game for the Warriors. That first half goal tied the score 1-1, and not another goal would be scored in regulation, as Westminster Christian (1-5) fell in overtime.
