Girls golf: Vernon Hills freshman sets school record

Lexi Schulman's stellar freshman season of varsity golf continued Tuesday.

Her school-record 33 (2 under par) led Vernon Hills to a 192-197 win over visiting Evanston in a Central Suburban League match at Vernon Hills Golf Course.

Vernon Hills' previous school record for nine holes was a 34 by Maja Mirjanic in 2017.

Besides Schulman's 33, the Cougars counted Molly King's 49, Mira Singh's 54 and Abby Finerty's 56.

Libertyville 173, Lake Zurich 178: At Veterans Memorial Golf Course, Payton DeBruler's 2-over 38 led the host Wildcats to the North Suburban Conference win.

It was the fourth straight match in which Libertyville (6-1, 3-1) improved its team total. Emma Fields added a 43, Lily McAuliffe had a 45, and Lexie Hill shot a 47.

"We love the improvement we see and the grit our kids showed while playing in really wet conditions," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said.

Lake Zurich was led by Bryana Hogan's 35.

Stevenson 161, Mundelein 190: At Countryside Golf Club, Emily Duan's 37 and Joyce Bai's 39 on the back nine of the traditional course led the visiting Patriots to the North Suburban Conference win.

Stevenson also counted freshman Jessica Velent's 41 and Briana Fidman's 44.

Kellie Shanahan shot a 45 for Mundelein.
