Cubs' Hendricks could return before all-star break

Right-handed starter Kyle Hendricks will throw a 45-pitch bullpen session Saturday at Cincinnati as he recovers from right-shoulder inflammation.

Hendricks, who has been on the injured list since June 15, said he came through Wednesday's 30-pitch bullpen fine and that it's possible he could return to the active list before the all-star break.

"Everything feels great," he said. "They try to keep me day-to-day so I don't get too excited."

Hendricks added that a cortisone shot he took has helped. Manager Joe Maddon would not rule out bringing Hendricks back before the break.

"It is possible, so we're not excluding any of that," Maddon said. "He's doing really well. If everything plays out properly and it looks like the right thing to do, we will. We're still going to listen to him and his body, but he sounds really encouraging right now."

It's been awhile:

Tyler Chatwood started Thursday's 9-7 victory over the Atlanta Braves and earned his first victory since May 22. It was his first win as a starting pitcher since July 21 of last season.

Chatwood, who has made 3 starts this year, gave up 6 hits and 6 runs while walking four and striking out.

Around the horn:

The Cubs recorded their largest come-from-behind win since July 26 last year when they also were down 6-1, to Arizona ... Carlos Gonzalez was ejected for arguing a called third strike with umpire Nic Lentz ... Kyle Schwarber hit his fifth career leadoff homer, all coming since May 24 of this season.
