Softball: Marian Central upsets Grayslake Central

Jenna Golemblewski hit a 2-run double in a 4-run fifth inning, and Marian Central's softball team upset Grayslake Central 5-3 in a semifinal of the Class 3A Wauconda sectional Wednesday.

Kennedy Stoffel (2-for-3) hit a solo homer for No. 3 Grayslake Central (24-8-1) in the bottom of the first inning, and the score remained 1-1 until the fifth.

No. 10 Marian Central (19-15-1) advances to Friday's 4:30 p.m. sectional final against No. 4 Marengo (23-15).

Grayslake Central pulled with two runs in the seventh, when Madeline Peterson homered with a runner aboard.

Hurricanes pitcher Jamie Gatz went the distance in the circle, allowing 2 earned runs, striking out 10 and walking one. Golemblewski also had a first-inning sacrifice fly.
