Softball: Hersey blanks Maine South 10-0 in regular-season finale
Mid-Suburban East softball champion Hersey closed out its regular season on Saturday with a 10-0 five-inning triumph over Maine South in Park Ridge.
Junior Savannah Gazda helped spark the offense by going 2-for-2 with a home run, 4 RBI and 2 runs.
Other multiple hitters for the Huskies (23-6) were sophomore Natalia Kubsik (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) and junior Morgan Breden (2-for-3, 2 runs).
Seniors Chloe Gordon, Makayla Tsagalis, Renae Curtis and Brianna Luciano each had 1 hit.
Luciano (12-4) earned the complete game win, tossing a 4-hitter with 9 strikeouts.
Rolling Meadows 11, Niles North 9: Sophomore Sam Benner (3-for-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI) belted a 3-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to give host Meadows (18-12) the win in its nonconference regular season finale.
Other multiple hitters for the Mustangs were Sara Benner (2-for-4, 2B), Caroline Slowik (3-for-4, 2 2B, RBI) and Kendra Herring (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI), who was the winning pitcher (9-3). Stephanie Thompson also doubled for the hosts.
Antioch 14, Elk Grove 8: Elk Grove (23-9) rallied from a 7-2 deficit to tie the game at 8-8 after five innings before visiting Antioch scored the final 6 runs for the nonconference win at the Ballpark at Rosemont.
Katia Pendowski's 2-run homer over the left field fence got the Grenadiers to within 7-4 in the bottom of the third and the Grens tied the game with a 4-run fourth.
Multiple hitters for EG were Morgan Leach (3-fo-r4, 2 runs), Brooke Baldassarre (2-for-3, 2B), Grace Engwall (2-for-3) and Olivia Masnica (2-for-4, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 runs).
AJ Trausch and Jaimie Klicka also had hits for the EG.
Huntley 12, Schaumburg 0 (5 inn): Juniors Talia Torosian (2B) and Nikki Kolodziej had the only hits for the host Saxons (11-20) in the nonconference game.
