Baseball: Warren hits 30 wins

Nate Rentas hit his ninth homer of the season, and Warren's baseball team beat Yorkville 2-1 in eight innings Saturday for its 30th win.

Brandon Houtz had a double for the Blue Devils (30-3), and Thomas Kenney had the game-winning RBI. Winning pitcher Bradley Vondruska struck out four and didn't walk a batter in 2⅔ no-hit innings.

Oak Forest 9, Vernon Hills 0: On Senior Day at VHHS, the star of the day was a senior on the visiting team.

Wichita State recruit Connor Oliver dominated on both the mound and at the plate. Oliver (8-0) threw 5⅔ shutout innings, allowing 3 hits while striking out nine in the nonconference game, as the Bengals improved to 23-4.

Vernon Hills (17-12) threatened several times, including having bases loaded in bottom of the sixth with one out. Oliver had 2 doubles and drove in 2 runs to help his own cause.

Danny Wizceb, Alex Yu and Derek Jarrell had the Cougars' hits. Quinn Geren returned from injury and was on base twice.

Carmel 10, Grayslake North 4: Lukas Galdoni earned the win and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer, double and 3 RBI for the Corsairs in the nonconference game.

Kyle Grawe was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Carmel (15-7), and Sean Lynch went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Stevenson 3, Lincoln-Way Central 0: The Patriots finished the regular season 23-9, as Nick Wang, Eli Fishbein, Nick Brueckert (win), Hayden Brotz and Jacob Rosenkranz (save) combined for the shutout.

Huntley 5, Grant 4: Henry Kusiak was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the host Bulldogs, who lost their regular-season to fall to 24-6 heading into the state tournament.

Huntley improved to 26-8.
