Baseball: Harvest Christian wins 4th straight regional

Tommy Abbatacola singled to drive in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and lift top seed Harvest Christian Academy to a Class 1A regional title in Elgin Saturday.

Abbatacola's line-drive to center field scored Jack Nohava from third base to complete a 2-1 walk-off victory over No. 4 Newark.

Harvest Christian Academy (22-3) won its fourth straight regional title.

The Lions, who host next week's sectional at Judson University, will face Chicago Hope Academy in a sectional semifinal on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Aurora Christian suspended at Westmont: No. 1 Aurora Christian led the Class 2A Westmont regional final 10-0 over No. 4 Westmont when play was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning. MJ Stavola hit his first home run of the season and drove in 2 runs. Trey Madsen doubled, scored and knocked in a run. Purdue commit Jake Kuntzendorf had 8 strikeouts in 4 scoreless innings and allowed 2 hits for Aurora Christian (15-9-1).

Lisle 3, Aurora Central Catholic 0: Mike Elliott's single was the only hit for No. 2 Aurora Central Catholic (23-11) against Lisle starting pitcher Damian Guerrero, who walked 3 and struck out eight to win the Class 2A St. Joseph regional final. Nathan Sundberg took the loss for ACC despite holding No. 3 Lisle (18-11) to 3 earned runs on 7 hits. He struck out seven in 6⅓ innings.

West Chicago 8, Elgin 7: A pair of seventh-inning Elgin errors led to 2 unearned runs and a walk-off win for West Chicago (7-21). Reliever Eric Damerow took the loss for Elgin (1-28) despite holding the Wildcats without an earned run on 1 hit in 2⅔ innings.

Huntley 5, Grant 4: Zach Model hit a 2-run double in a 5-run seventh inning to catapult Huntley (26-8) to a nonconference win. Hunter Rumachik nabbed the win with 2 innings of scoreless relief.

Geneva 11, Hersey 1: Nick Black hit a 3-run home run, doubled and drove in 6 runs in a five-inning nonconference win for the Vikings. Blake Breon also homered and pitched 2 scoreless innings to earn the win for Geneva (14-18-1).

Wheaton North 10, Marmion 0: The Cadets were outhit 11-2 in a nonconference loss. Dillon Dilorio and Jack Zebig managed the only hits for Marmion (8-16)

Neuqua Valley 3, St. Charles East 0: A Cole Conn double and singles by Drew Parrine and Robert Carne were the only hits in a nonconference loss for the Saints (15-15-1).

Barrington 7, St. Charles North 4: A.J. Christoffer hit a home run and drove in 3 runs in a nonconference win for Barrington (28-6). Andrew Jimenez (2-3) allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits and a walk in 2 innings for St. Charles North (23-10).
