Girls soccer: Hill's 2 goals lead Stevenson to regional title

Senior captain Krissy Hill scored twice, and Stevenson's top-seeded girls soccer team captured its own Class 4A regional championship with a 3-0 win over No. 9 Buffalo Grove Friday night.

It was the 18th shutout and 13th in a row for the Patriots, who improved to 20-1-2 and advanced to Tuesday's 5 p.m. sectional semifinal against No. 4 Lake Zurich.

Alyssa Bende also scored, Kalyssa VanZanten had 2 assists, and Emma Ramagnano contributed an assist as well. Stevenson went undefeated at home this season.

"A well-organized BG team came out with a great game plan, but steady defending and great work in the midfield and up top lead the Patriots to victory," Stevenson coach PepeJon Chavez said. "It's an amazing group of girls and incredibly special season. Whenever it ends, it will be a season to remember forever."

Lake Zurich 3, Hersey 1: At Palatine, Maddy Piggott scored all 3 goals for the fourth-seeded Bears against the fifth-seeded Huskies in the Class 3A regional final.

Rachel Krueger and Abby Willock had assists for Lake Zurich (12-9-1), and keeper Paige Grossenbacher made 5 saves.

Wauconda 1, Lakes 0: At Ridgewood, Savannah Johnson scored off an assist from Megan Sinnott in the first half, and the top-seeded Bulldogs survived against the eighth-seeded Eagles in the Class 2A regional final.

Wauconda keeper Mackenzie Arden had 4 saves.

"Megan was able to get the ball along the touchline and played a beautiful left-footed ball across the box to Sav for the goal," coach Beau Shogren said after his Bulldogs improved to 15-2-2. "We had a few more chances in the first half, including a beautiful left-footed shot by Belle Johnson that ricocheted off the post. We struggled in the second half, but did enough to hang on. (Lakes) Coach (Kevin) Kulby always bring his teams ready to play in the postseason."

Deerfield 1, Grayslake North 0: At Grayslake North, the fourth-seeded Warriors converted a penalty kick in the first half of the Class 2A regional final, ending the sixth-seeded Knights' season.

Lake Forest 4, Grayslake Central 0: At Lake Forest, the second-seeded Scouts shut out the seventh-seeded Rams in the Class 2A regional final.
