Softball: Elk Grove's Clausen tosses her first no-hitter
Elk Grove pitcher Lauren Clausen retired the final 14 batters she faced and tossed the first no-hitter of her career in the Grenadiers' 10-0 five-inning win over host Buffalo Grove on Monday.
The junior right-hander (14-4), in her second season on the varsity, struck out five as Elk Grove's softball team raised its record to 23-7 and finished second (10-6) in the Mid-Suburban East.
Jaimie Klicka belted a home run for the Grens while multiple hitters were Olivia Masnica (3-for-4, 2 runs, 2B), Morgan Leach (2-for-4, 2 runs), Katia Pendowski (2-for-3, 2 RBI), AJ Trausch (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 3B) and Brooke Baldassarre (2-for-3).
Hersey 7, Prospect 1: Hersey senior Brianna Luciano fired a 5-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and 4 RBI.
The host Mid-Suburban East champion Huskies (20-5, 13-3) also received multiple hits from Makayla Tsagalis (3-for-4, 3 runs). Ria Patel added a double for the Huskies.
Cassie Cunniff (3-for-3) and Kathryn Keehn (2-for-3) led Prospect (8-14, 5-10).
Barrington 18, Conant 2 (5 inn.): Kendall Peterson (2-for-4, 3 RBI), belted her 12th homer of the season for Barrington (26-5, 13-2) in the MSL West.
Other multiple hitters for the Fillies were Tori Meyer (3-for-4, 2B), Katherine Stagnito (3-for-3, 2 RBI), Samantha Murphy 3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2B), Brynn Nevers (3-for-3, 3 RBI), Leyden Atlas (2-for-4) and Gina Magro (2-for-4, 2B).
Senior Barbara Covek (13-3) threw a 4-hitter with 5 strikeouts.
Emily Taucher doubled for the host Cougars (4-18, 4-12).
Fremd 12, Hoffman Estates 2 (5 inn): Kalyn McCarthy (2-for-3, 3 runs), Cali DiVito (2-for-3, 2B, 2 runs), Kelsey Brauer (1-for-2, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Elaina Kraus (3-for-3, 3 RBI), Reagan Goluch (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Gianna Arnieri (2-for-3) were multiple hitters for the host Vikings (17-7, 12-4) in the MSL West.
Hailey Hazlett (8-6) tossed a 7-hitter with 7 strikeouts.
Brianna Venegas (2-for-3) and Ryan Cloherty (2-for-2) led the offense fro Hoffman (2-25, 1-15).
Rolling Meadows 17, Wheeling 4 (5 inn.): Kendra Herring (8-2) was the wining pitcher as host Rolling Meadows (16-10) improved to 8-7 in the MSL East.
Sara Benner homered for the Mustangs and Stephanie Thompson had a double.
Nikki Ferraro homered for Wheeling (3-19, 1-15).
Maine West 10, Elmwood Park 0 (5 inn.): Jessica Steingard threw a 1-hitter with 14 strikeouts for the host Warriors (14-10) in the nonconference game.
Abby Gawlinski (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Olivia Feldkamp (2-for-2) led the offense while Brianna Migaczewski added a double.
Downers Grove South 7, Leyden 0: Host Leyden (16-6) had 2 hits, one apiece from Elyse McLaughlin and Meghan Fontanetta. Eagles pitcher Emma Bertsche stuck out four.
