Softball: St. Charles East, Batavia, South Elgin win

St. Charles East 9, Lake Park 0: The Saints (16-8, 7-3) tightened up the DuKane Conference race with a win over the conference-leading Lancers.

The top two hitters in St. Charles East's lineup, Krista Sbarra and Maddy Stout, both smacked a pair of doubles. Sbarra scored 2 runs and Stout drove in 4. Izzy Howe added 2 RBI.

Katie Arrambide held Lake Park (17-9, 7-1) to 3 hits. She struck out 9 and walked 1.

The Saints host rival St. Charles North on Wednesday and will try to avenge a loss to Batavia on Thursday.

Batavia 15, Wheaton North 7: The Bulldogs picked up a DuKane Conference win behind home runs from Allison Bahlmann, Cassidy Carby and Leah Karel.

Karel finished 3-for-5 with 3 runs and 4 RBI, Bahlmann had 2 hits and scored 3 runs, and Carby was 3-5 with 3 runs. Lucy Lisberg was 3-4 with 3 runs, and Peyton Sachse had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 3 RBI.

Elizabeth Thayer earned the win pitching the first 4⅓ innings; only 4 of the 7 runs she allowed were earned. Noelle Chaney pitched the final 2⅔ scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts.

Batavia (9-13, 4-6) plays at Geneva Wednesday.

South Elgin 19, Glenbard East 2: South Elgin bounced back from its first Upstate Eight loss the previous day against Glenbard South with a blowout win in Lombard.

The Storm (18-6, 11-1) scored 6 runs in the second to build an 8-1 lead, then broke the game open with 11 runs in the fourth in support of winning pitcher Sidney Strama (4 IP, 5 hits, 2 runs, 4 strikeouts, 0 walks).

Sammy Jimenez blasted a pair of home runs to lead the Storm's 15-hit attack. She went 3-for-3 with 6 RBI.

Sami Koss doubled and drove in 3 runs. Strama, Koss and Angelina Guido all had 2 hits.

Kaneland 6, Ottawa 0: Emilee Erickson dominated for the Knights (22-6), firing a 3-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and just 1 walk. The Knights gave Erickson all the offense she needed in the first when Donatela Sommesi led off with a single, stole second and scored on Rose Roach's home run.

Roach finished 3-for-3 with 3 runs. Maddy Wheatley added 2 RBI.

The Knights play at Rochelle Wednesday before nonconference games against DuKane Conference opponents Geneva and St. Charles East on Friday and Saturday.

Jacobs 11, Crystal Lake Central 8: Sarah Lynch pitched the Golden Eagles (11-8, 7-5) to a Fox Valley Conference win with 7 strikeouts in her 5 innings allowing just 1 earned run. Delaney Garden didn't give up an earned run in her 2 innings of relief.

Emily Pena homered and drove in 2 runs. Pena, Abbey Nesnidal and Garden all had 2 hits.

Prairie Ridge 5, Hampshire 3: The Whip-Purs (12-11, 4-5) came up short in Fox Valley Conference action despite a pair of singles from Alyssa Cork and doubles by Sarah Bowen, Shai-Ann Currie and Miki Snider.

Burlington Central 14, Johnsburg 5: Peyton Curtis hit a home run while going 3-for-5 with 4 RBI, and Alisyn Catenacci also hit a home run and had 2 RBI in a Kishwaukee River victory.

Katie Snow (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Abigail Sanders (4-for-5, 2 runs) Maissie Rabe (2-for-3) and Rylie Duval (2-for-4, 2 runs) all contributed to the Rockets' 20-hit attack. Catenacci pitched a complete game, scattering 11 hits without a walk and recording 8 strikeouts.
