Pitching matchups: The Cubs' Kyle Hendricks (1-4) vs. Jack Flaherty (3-1) at 1:20 p.m. Friday; Yu Darvish (2-3) vs. Michael Wacha (2-0) at 3:05 p.m. Saturday; Jose Quintana (3-1) vs. Adam Wainwright (3-2) at 6:08 p.m. Sunday.

At a glance: The Cardinals finished a series Thursday at Washington leading the National League Central. St. Louis entered the day with a plus-36 run differential while the Cubs led the NL at plus-38. Antioch High School graduate Paul DeJong entered Thursday riding an 11-game hitting streak and a line of .336/.396/.590 with 5 homers and 13 RBI for the Cardinals. Marcell Ozuna was tied for third in homers (10) with the Cubs' Javier Baez. Ex-Cubs leadoff man Dexter Fowler has been ill this week, but he entered Thursday leading the Cardinals with a .415 on-base percentage.
