Boys lacrosse: St. Charles North throttles Batavia

St. Charles North Senior Sean Lee has played on some very good lacrosse teams in his four years as a varsity player, but he feels this year's team might just be something special.

The North Stars rolled to a 19-5 win over Batavia in DuKane Conference action on Monday to improve to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the DC.

"I think the saying is you are only as strong as your weakest link, and we don't really have any weak links," Lee said. "I've played on teams that probably had more talent, but I've never been on a team that had this kind of chemistry. A big part of our success has been because of teamwork and that can take you a long ways."

Lee had another outstanding performance with 4 goals, 4 assists and 2 ground balls.

"My big focus has been on the assists," Lee said. "I take a lot of pride in getting the other guys the ball. It was especially nice to see some of the guys who usually don't get a chance to score get some tonight."

The North Stars got off to a fast start scoring the first 5 goals and never looked back. St. Charles North led 15-2 at halftime to force a running clock for the entire second half.

"We did a real good job just moving the ball around," St. Charles North coach Kyle Pepich said. "Spreading the ball out leaves all of our options open and it's hard to key on any one player. This group has a lot of team chemistry. Everybody is competing at a high level."

Pepich was also pleased with his team's discipline.

"We suffered our first loss last Friday and committed 11 penalties," Pepich said. "That is a lot for a lacrosse game. So our goal was to play more disciplined and cut down on the penalties. We only had 5, so I was really happy with that."

Jack Cunningham led the North Stars with 5 goals. Nick Schrepferman added 3 goals while Josh Uhri and Tanner Davidson each had a pair. Lucas Koefelda had a strong game defensively with 4 groundballs and 4 forced turnovers.

Batavia (2-8, 0-2) was led in scoring by Brian Clark, who had a pair.

"North is very good team with a lot of experience," Batavia coach Scott Williams said. "On the other hand we are a very young team. It's a growing program and these are some of the growing (pains) you go through. But even though we were down early I liked the way we kept playing tough and had a strong second half."
