Softball: Grayslake North wins in walk-off fashion

Grayslake North's softball team scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 7-6, walk-off win over visiting Johnsburg in a nonconference game Wednesday.

The winning run scored on a wild pitch.

Caitlin Barenbaum led Grayslake North at the plate, going 4-for-4 with her second home run of the season. Meghan Delahunty (2-for-2, 2 walks), Faith Standerski (double), Nicole Hughes (walk), Grace Brown, Jess Pozezinski (RBI), Ashton Moore and Scout Kram all had hits for the Knights (14-9).

Eight starters had hits for Grayslake North, and Alyssa Carr collected 2 RBI despite not having a hit. Kram earned the win in relief, throwing 5 innings of 1-run ball to go along with 6 strikeouts, 4 hits and 3 walks.

Adriana Montewska led the Skyhawks, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and missing the cycle by a single. Megan Patterson (3-for-4, 3 RBI) also hit a home run.

Libertyville 10, Lakes 0: Amanda Page allowed 2 hits over 5 innings, striking out six in the nonconference game.

Maggie Evers was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and 4 RBI for Libertyville, and Aliya Haddon was 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI. The Wildcats also got contributions from Katie Jahncke (3-for-3, double), Lexie Hill (2-for-3, 2 doubles) and Ella Zombolo (2-for-3).

Vernon Hills 13, New Trier 1: Madison Johnson went 4-for-5 with a triple, and the Cougars won the Central Suburban League game.

Delaney Bowen homered for Vernon Hills (8-10, 3-1), and Mackenzie Mahler went 2-for-4.

Carmel 9, St. Viator 7: Jordan Swiatkowski hit a 2-run, walk-off homer (her 10th of the season) in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the Corsairs in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

St. Viator led 6-0 until Carmel scored 7 runs in the bottom of the third.

The Corsairs improved to 13-5 and 4-0 in the ESCC.

Woodstock North 11, Wauconda 4: Angelica Cho was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for the Bulldogs in their nonconference loss.

Calli Janik and Rachel Peat were both 2-for-4 for Wauconda, and Julia Fohlmeister had a double.

Vernon Hills 14, Maine East 2: On Tuesday, Delaney Bowen was 4-for-5 with a triple and 2 doubles, as the Cougars won in Central Suburban League action.

Mackenzie Mahler went 2-for-3 with a home run for Vernon Hills (7-10, 3-1), and Rachel Wright finished 3-for-4 with a double.
