Baseball: South Elgin wins series from West Aurora
South Elgin pitcher Logan Romasanta threw a 4-hitter with 8 strikeouts to lead South Elgin to a 4-2 victory at West Aurora in the rubber game of the Upstate Eight series.
Austin Doty, Patrick Keaty, Grant Baker and Griffen Allen drove in runs for first-place South Elgin (14-3, 12-2).
Logan Mont was the tough-luck losing pitcher. He held the Storm to 4 runs, all unearned due to 3 errors, on 6 hits, walked 3 and struck out 4 in 5⅔ innings. Darrin Hartkopp went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for West Aurora (14-6-1, 10-4-1).
Streamwood 11, East Aurora 1: Max Alanis and Anthony Caruso homered, and Colin Bielinski struck out 9 and limited the Tomcats to an earned run on 4 hits in the Upstate Eight victory for Streamwood (12-8,10-5).
Bartlett sweeps West Chicago: The Hawks erupted for 7 sixth-inning runs to pull away for an 11-3 Upstate Eight win. Nathan Euliano pitched a 3-hitter with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts, and Mike Vaca homered and drove in 3 runs for the Hawks. Bartlett won Monday's suspended game 6-2, propelled by a 5-run first inning. Blake Oliver (4 RBI) and Ryan Nelson hit home runs for Bartlett (6-7-1, 6-6).
Harvest Christian Academy 8, Aurora Christian 1: Grant Young (3 hits, 5 IP) and Brock Wilken combined to pitch a 4-hitter in a rematch of a 2018 Class 1A sectional final. Matt Ellett, Brock Wilken and Isaac Martinez each had 2 hits in the nonconference win for Harvest Christian (13-2). Mike Zelko took the loss for Aurora Christian (9-5-1).
Hampshire 4, Prairie Ridge 3: Matt Jachec held the Wolves to 3 unearned runs on 6 hits and a walk and struck out 9 in a Fox Valley Conference win. Dylan Petrey got the final two outs to earn the save. Nick Sladek and Gavin Kriegel had 2 hits apiece for Hampshire (13-6, 8-5).
Cary-Grove 8, Crystal Lake Central 2: Jacob Duncan singled to drive in the go-ahead run and the Trojans scored six times in the eighth inning to win in the Fox Valley. Duncan also pitched 2⅔ scoreless innings in relief of Ryan Weaver to earn the win for Cary-Grove (15-4, 9-2).
Huntley 11, Jacobs 1: Huntley scored 5 runs in the third inning and 4 in the seventh to win a Fox Valley Conference game. A.J. Henkle went 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI, and Kyle Maurer allowed 1 hit in and struck out 8 in 5 scoreless innings for Huntley (17-4,10-2). Anthony Wilson took the loss for Jacobs (8-12, 3-7).
McHenry 8, Dundee-Crown 0: Joe Kaminski pitched a no-hitter with one walk and 12 strikeouts to lift McHenry in Fox Valley Conference action. Nick Gregory absorbed the loss for Dundee-Crown (4-15, 0-11).
Crystal Lake South 6, Chicago University 2: Winning pitcher Nathan Schlaiss struck out 4 and allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits in nonconference play. Kyle Hetherington tripled for Crystal Lake South (10-8).
