Wolves fall short in Game 3 of playoffs
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan - The Grand Rapids Griffins scored three straight goals to close out the second period and set up a 6-2 victory over the Chicago Wolves in Game 3 of the Central Division Semifinals Tuesday night at Van Andel Arena.
Forwards T.J. Tynan and Tye McGinn scored for the short-handed Wolves (1-2), who lost a pair of forwards to injury during the opening 30 minutes. Goaltender Max Lagace (1-1) posted 19 saves.
The teams combined for 144 penalty minutes as the second and third periods degenerated into repeated tussles.
Grand Rapids (2-1) received a pair of goals from former Wolves center Wade Megan and rookie Filip Zadina. Harri Sateri (2-1) stopped 35 shots.
Tynan opened the scoring with a power-play blast at 12:31 of the first period. After the Griffins took a 2-1 lead early in the second, McGinn swooped into the slot and buried Tomas Hyka's pass from the back boards to make it 2-2 at the 5:56 mark.
Megan answered with his first two goals of the postseason - done in a 3:07 span - before Zadina added his second.
Chicago and Grand Rapids meet for Game 4 at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Van Andel Arena. If the Wolves win, then they host Game 5 at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Allstate Arena.
