Softball: Elk Grove rolls to sweep of New Trier

Elk Grove's softball team didn't forget its bats on Saturday in a nonconference doubleheader with visiting New Trier.

With a four-inning 21-3 win and a five-inning 15-5 triumph, the Grenadiers punched out 35 hits while raising their record to 14-2.

Junior Lauren Clausen (8-1) threw a 4-hitter with 4 strikeouts in Game 1 and also doubled.

Leading the Grens' 14-hit attack were Morgan Leach (4-for-4, 3B, 4 runs, 3 RBI), Jaimie Klicka (3-for-4, 2 2B, 7 RBI) and AJ Trausch (2-for-2, 2B, 4 runs, 3 RBI).

Senior Brooke Baldassarre (2-1) earned the win in Game 2, striking out two. Clausen threw the final inning, striking out the side.

Leading the offense were Katia Pendowski (4-for-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI), Leach (2-for-4, 3 runs), Olivia Masnica (3-for-4, 2B, 2 runs). Trausch (2-for-3, 2B, 3 runs), Klicka (3-for-4, 3 RBI), Grace Engwall (2-for-4), Baldassarre (2-for-3), Ava Engwall (2-for-4, 2 2B) and Clausen (2B).

Fremd splits: At the Libertyville quad, Fremd (7-4) defeated the host Wildcats 19-11 and fell 1-0 to McHenry. The Vikings had 18 hits against the host team, led by Kayln McCarthy (3-for-4, 4 runs), Kelsey Brauer (3-for-4, HR, 4 RBI), Reagan Goluch (2-f-or-5, HR), McKenna Schneider (2-for-5, 2B), Cali DiVito (2-for-4), Gianna Arnieri (2-for-5, 2 runs), Ava Jordan (2-for-3, HR, 2B, 5 runs, 2 RBI) and Elaina Kraus (HR). Sophomore Grace Hiller (4-1) earned the win. McHenry's Julia Druml (8 strikeouts) threw a no-hitter at Fremd, allowing only one baserunner. Fremd senior Hailey Hazlett (3-3) allowed only 4 hits and struck out two.

Schaumburg splits: The host Saxons (7-11) dropped a 13-4 decision to Lakes in Game 1 and then won 14-4 in Game 2. Schaumburg's Lauren Nielsen (4-4) notched the win, throwing a 6-hitter with 7 strikeouts. The offense was led by Tatiana Cooper (3-for-4, 2 2B, 5 RBI), Tiffani Rudnick (3-for-4, 3 runs), Jordan Kaiser (2-for-3, 4 runs), Talia Torosian (2-for-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 3 runs) and Sophie Rainey (2-for-2, HR, 3 RBI). Mariah Gutierrez was 2-for-4-with a double and Morgan Miller struck out eight in the opener for Schaumburg.

St. Viator splits: Host St. Viator (5-10, 1-3) won the opener 11-5 and fell 14-4 in Game 2 of an East Suburban Catholic twin bill with Nazareth. Lions freshman Allison Ardito had 6 hits on the day and 4 in Game 1. The Lions broke it open when they batted around the order in an 8-run third inning. Morgan Bielfeldt (3 hits, 4 RBI) belted a 2-run homer and Cece Kaiser (2 hits 3 RBI) clubbed a 3 run homer. Winning pitcher Gianna Saverino pitched out of a few jams and the defense turned 4 double plays behind her. Morgan Bielfeldt had 5 hits on the day. Kaiser, Nicole Ardito Mary Naughton and Maggie VanValkenburg each had 3 hits while Cassidy Gibson and Marissa Zanon had a pair.

Glenbrook South 10, Hersey 9: Multiple hitters for Hersey (7-4) were Sarah Bailitz (3-for-4, 2 3B, 2 runs), Morgan Breden (2-for-3, RBI) and Savannah Gazda (2-for-3). Teammates Brianna Luciano homered and Chloe Gordon doubled in the nonconference game. Bailitz struck out five in four innings and Luciano had 3 strikeouts in the final two innings.

Glenbrook North 10, Wheeling 0 (5 inn): Freshman Danni Moser had the only hit for host Wheeling (2-8) in the nonconference game.
